What is Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty?

Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty (ESG) is a non-surgical sleeve, endosleeve, or accordion method. The procedure represents a contemporary approach to weight loss. This procedure is suitable for individuals with a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or higher. Conventional diet and exercise regimens have not worked out or yielded significant results in their weight loss journey.

Unlike traditional surgery, ESG employs an endoscopic suturing device to reduce stomach size by 80%. The surgery works for weight loss in two ways:

Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty Before & After

Endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty (ESG) is also known as the non-surgical sleeve, endosleeve, or accordion procedure. This procedure may be an option if you’re significantly overweight. A body mass index of 30 or more and diet and exercise haven’t worked for you.

The highlight of the accordion procedure is that it is non-surgical. This equates to no incisions, no scars, and little or no pain after the procedure. In essence, ESG is an even less invasive version of the minimally-invasive Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy (VSG).

What to Expect from the ESG Procedure?

The non-surgical gastric sleeve is done under general anesthesia, it takes about 30 to 45 minutes and does not require a hospital stay.

The procedure is done using an endoscope, a flexible tube with a camera, and an endoscopic suturing device attached. A doctor inserts the endoscope down your throat into the stomach and strategically places about 7-12 sutures in the stomach to reduce its size and reshape it into a sleeve-like pouch resembling a banana.

The endoscopic gastric sleeve (ESG) recovery time is much shorter with less pain and fewer restrictions. After ESG, It is recommended that you plan for at least 3-5 days of inactivity to help your body recover.

When will I See the Results of ESG Procedure?

The average weight loss for endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty is about 49% of excess body weight after 1 year.

Statistics indicate that weight loss numbers after gastric sleeve seem to follow a pattern of milestones. These milestones seemed to be more evident at 3 months, 6 months, 12 months, and 18 months.

The most weight loss in the shortest amount of time.

Patients should have reduced their excess weight by 30-40%.

Patients should be close to their goal weight if they have not reached it already.

Weight loss normally transitions to a maintenance phase and plateaus.

How much does Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty Cost?

IBI Healthcare is now offering ESG for a special self-pay price of $8,400. IBI Healthcare pricing is all-inclusive, it covers consultations and pre-op support fees, the procedure fees, facility fees, physician fees, and aftercare fees.

The cost of a non-surgical sleeve is lower than the cost of bariatric surgery, e.g. gastric sleeve (VSG) or gastric bypass (RYGB), since fees for surgical procedures are traditionally higher than fees for non-surgical ones, as well as ESG patients return home the same day and do not require an overnight hospital stay charged extra.
